Bloom’s Donation Spreads Joy This Holiday Season!

Abe Bloom, age 13 of Westerly, RI, reminds us of what this Holiday Season is truly about, spreading joy. Abe came into Westerly Community Credit Union November 30th with a Mongoose Bike and a Remote Controlled Rock Crawler Monster Truck to donate to the Mini’s Making a Difference Toy Run!
Abe was able to make such a generous donation due to his fundraising efforts. Abe is currently raising money to compete across the country with his Ohio All Star Wrestling Team starting this summer. Abe’s mother Shana agreed to the trip as long as 25% of all funds raised, are donated back to a charity of his choice. She encourages charitable donations, because she knows the joy it can bring. She has been a recipient of such kindness growing up, and encourages her family to do the same when they are able.

Shana brought Abe into WCCU to open two Young Adult Share Savings Accounts, one for his trip proceeds and one for charitable donations. Inside the branch, Abe saw the Mini’s Making a Difference toy donation boxes and knew this was where he would donate his toys. Abe chose to donate to Mini’s Making a Difference because his donation could be delivered to Toys for Tots, a nationwide charity. Toys for Tots was one of three charities that received donations; The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center and Children’s Wishes of Rhode Island also benefited from the toy run. When Abe was asked how he decided on donating a bike he stated, “I thought it would be cool for a little boy to open a bike that wasn’t expecting one rather than purchasing lots of smaller toys!”

Westerly Community Credit Union thanks Abe Bloom and all those in the community who helped spread joy this Holiday Season by donating, and making the Mini’s Making a Difference Toy Run a success!
