Wednesday, March 23, 2022

The Westerly Community Credit Union (WCCU) held its 2021 Annual Holiday Basketball Tournament which supports local athletes, sports programs, and schools. WCCU is the sole sponsor of the tournament since it started in 1984, underwrites all expenses, and donates 100% of the gate receipts to the participating schools’ sports boosters.

The tournament took place on Dec. 27th, 28th, 29th & 30th and raised a total of $8,000.00. Chariho, Stonington, South Kingstown, and Westerly High School’s Sports Boosters each received a check for $2,000.00 for their basketball teams’ hard work, determination, and participation in the tournament, bringing the total raised to date to over $258,577.

“WCCU is focused on supporting our members and local communities and we want to make a positive impact in our community,” stated Steve White, WCCU President & CEO. “We were very excited to be able to hold it this year and raise money for our communities’ young adults.”

The Westerly Community Credit Union is proud to sponsor this event every year and wants to thank everyone who participated: the boys & girls, JV & Varsity basketball teams, the coaches, and of course the fans.
